A little on skeptism
16Jan07
The internet is a funny thing. With heaps of information and knowledge that is accessible, rising levels of accompanying skeptism are challenging the purpose of marketing and branding. For more arguments on that, see nologo . As a marketing student it’s rather disturbing, or should I say, sad, to see something like that. The existence of brands do have a part to play in constructing societies that we live in but is the current society an ideal one?

There’ll never be a practical ideal society. Everyone has their own perspective of an ideal society. Definitely I don’t advocate the current situation as the best, but what is the best? What is defined in nologo.org would be the should-haves. If you think of a world without brands, what would you then call the international fast food chain? “The one down the road selling nice fries and okay meals”? I agree with the fact that there’re many issues yet to be touched on and I think as developing countries gradually make their way up, they will be solved. What is commendable of the author would be the effort made to highlight these effects of globalization and branding, but as we move along, there’ll be more problems coming up. There’ll never be a perfect world, but only something perfect out of it.
